Career

A DJ's progression across battles — draft.

Draft

This page is a sketch of the career logic, not a settled ruleset. Rank names are fixed; what it takes to move between them is still open — see Open questions at the bottom.

What a career is

Your careeris everything that carries over between battles: the rank you've reached, the cards you've collected, and the battles you've won.

It is not DJ Vibe. DJ Vibe is a single battle's score — it starts at 0 every battle and is gone when the battle ends. A career only ever moves forward, across battles, and it is what a DJ is judged on outside a match.

Ranks
01
Listener
Where every DJ starts. You own a starter collection and are learning what a track list is for.
02
Apprentice
You've won your first DJ battles and built a track list of your own rather than a handed-down one.
03
Resident
A regular. Deep enough collection to build several track lists for different matchups, and a battle record to back it.
04
Headliner
Top of the bill. Rare cards, a proven record across many battles, and the track lists to close a night.
How you move up

Two tracks feed a career, and a rank is meant to need both — a DJ who only battles and a DJ who only collects should both stall:

  • Battles won — every DJ battle you win counts toward your career, whatever your DJ Vibe was at the end of it.
  • Collection — cards owned, and how rare they are. Card acquisition is what makes a higher rank playable at all: rarer cards, deeper track lists.
Careers and deck slots

Career rank does not grant deck slots. Gear is gated by your own DJ Vibe inside the battle you are playing — a Headliner still opens a battle on an MP3 Player, with a single deck slot. See Rules — Slots.

Open questions
  • Does rank advance on a single numeric score, or on thresholds met per track (X battles won andY cards owned)? If it's a score, it needs a name of its own.
  • Can a career rank go down after losses, or is it a ratchet that only climbs?
  • Are four ranks enough for a long-lived account, or does Headliner need levels inside it?
  • Does rank affect anything mechanical (matchmaking, rewards, available formats), or is it purely a title?
